Hey, everybody! Welcome back to those who are familiar, and nice to meet you for those who are new. I hope the new year is treating you well so far.
This post is a little different from the usual content I post in that I’m the one in the hot seat, so to speak, and have been interview by the amazing Didi Anofienem!
Originally from Houston TX, the hometown of Beyoncé and Meg the Stallion, Didi Anofienem is an author and educator currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. She earned her MFA from University of San Francisco in 2017, a BS from UT-Austin in 2010, and a BA from University of Houston in 2014. She also has an EdM from Teacher’s College at Columbia University and will finish an MEd from Teacher’s College at Arizona State University in 2025. She is the founder of The Writing School LA, a non-profit dedicated to fostering a love of reading and writing in students from grades 3rd through 12th. Her debut novel, Descendants of Fire & Water, won the 2024 International Impact Book Award for Fantasy, and its sequel Wielders of Floods & Flames will be published in spring 2025.
She, Omari Richards, and I will be on a panel at this year’s AWP Writing conference titled “The Joy & Magic of Afrofantasy: Celebrating African Storytelling Traditions,” where we’ll be talking about how African storytelling traditions form a new(?) genre of fantasy with Afrocentric exploration. You can learn more about it on the AWP2025 conference schedule website, and all three of us hope to see you there.
In the meantime, the three of us are interviewing each other to get to know each other better and to maybe introduce ourselves to each other’s fans. Either way, get ready for a fun, informative interview about me and what I’m working on with an incredibly amazing author in her own right!
